In the 1970s, Werner Erhard developed innovative ideas and methods that eventually transformed into The Forum, an educational program that has had a positive impact on millions of people around the world. Speaking Being: Werner Erhard, Martin Heidegger, and a New Possibility of Being Human includes a transcript of The Forum course from a session in December 1989.
This book studies Erhard’s work in a comparative analysis with the philosophical project of Martin Heidegger. The authors illustrate how the thinkers’ works often parallel and complement each other. Using a series of “Sidebars” and “Intervals” throughout the book, the authors demonstrate that both thinkers developed similar theories of ontological rhetoric.
The Forum, now known as the Landmark Forum and offered by Landmark is available in more than 20 countries.
In the book, the authors present a transcript of a course led by Erhard in San Francisco alongside Heidegger’s philosophy in order to illuminate the similarities between the two thinkers’ rhetoric despite the vast differences in their times and places of work.
Today’s Landmark programs are based on Erhard’s original ideas about being but still feel fresh for modern students. Over three consecutive days, participants take part in sessions where they learn about how to identify patterns of behavior and decision making that get in the way of having what they want in life. Students are invited to step out of their comfort zones and take on accomplishing things they had written off as unachievable.
People around the world have opened their minds with the Landmark Forum’s courses. They even offer special sessions for corporations. Teens and young people can also participate in their own courses. Students who want to see what the course is all about before they sign up can attend an Introduction to the Landmark Forum. Here they can ask questions about the philosophy offered in the sessions and hear from past participants about their experiences.
The authors of Speaking Being: Werner Erhard, Martin Heidegger, and a New Possibility of Being Human have made Erhard’s ideas available to a wide range of audiences outside of live courses for the first time. From academic researchers to curious readers, anyone who wonders about the possibilities of being beyond what we live every day.
Speaking Being: Werner Erhard, Martin Heidegger, and a New Possibility of Being Human will release on August 6, 2019.
